Tucson, AZ—The UC Riverside Softball Team had its four-game winning streak snapped Friday afternoon with a 12-2 loss to No. 17 ranked Arizona in the second game of the Wildcat Invitational.
The Wildcats took advantage of a six-run first inning and a six-run third to inning to mercy-rule the Highlanders in five.
After allowing the six runs in the first, UCR came back and cut the lead to 6-2 in the second. Ashley Ercolano doubled to lead off the frame, and with two outs, Natalie Sanchez homered to put the Highlanders on board.
UC Riverside left two runners on base in the next inning, and a six-run third by Arizona made it a 12-2 ballgame.
The Highlanders continue play at the Wildcat Invitational with two games on Saturday, facing off against Boston University at 10 am PT and against Portland State at noon.
