Portland Earns 6-1 Win Over Men's Tennis

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team returned to action Sunday afternoon falling 6-1 to Portland at Canyon Crest Country Club.
The Pilots won 8-4 in both the first and second doubles matches to take point number one. UCR's duo of Calvin Ngo and Luis Gastao came through with an 8-6 win at #3, preventing a Portland sweep.
In singles, Gastao went perfect on the day as he defeated Michael Hu Kwo 2-6, 7-6, 10-6 at #2. Ngo went to a tiebreaker at number four, but fell just shy to Justin Guay, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5.
The Pilots won in straight sets in the other four matches to secure the 6-1 victory.
"The guys worked hard this week to prepare and did an outstanding job of adding better tactical elements to their games," Head Coach Tim Downey stated. "We are coming around as a team and our improvement will start to pay off in wins."
The Highlanders have a week off before hosting Sacramento State on Saturday, March 23 at noon at Riverside City College.
