UC Santa Barbara Spoils Senior Day For Women's Basketball, 62-42

Riverside, CA - Natasha Hadley scored 15 points and Brittany Crain added 10 for the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team Saturday afternoon against UC Santa Barbara, but 20 points from Nicole Nesbit led the Gauchos past the Highlanders, 62-42, on senior day at the SRC Arena.
The Highlanders fall to 11-16 overall and 4-12 in league play, while UCSB improves to 13-15, 9-7.
UC Riverside led 8-4 early in the first half, but a 15-4 Gauchos run midway through the period made it a 19-12 advantage. A Hadley jumper cut the lead to five, but UC Santa Barbara scored nine straight points to open a 28-14 lead at the 6:18 mark, and entered the break up 15, 32-17.
UCSB connected on 53.6 percent of its shots in the period while holding the Highlanders to just 25.0 percent.
In the second half, the Gauchos scored 10 of the first 12 points to open their largest margin of the game, 42-21, with 14:13 to go. The Highlanders got as close as 14 with just under five minutes remaining, but UCSB closed out the contest with an 11-5 run.
UC Riverside hit 35.6 percent from the field for the game but committed 19 turnovers in the loss.
After the game, the Highlanders honored the class of 2013: seniors Leah Washington and Tre'Shonti Nottingham.
UCR has two regular season games remaining on its docket: at Hawai'i on Thursday, March 7, and at Cal State Northridge on Saturday, March 9.
