Vanguard Picks Up 5-2 Victory Over Men's Tennis

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team returned to action on Monday afternoon faling 5-2 to Vanguard at Andulka Park.

The Lions earned an 8-5 win at number two doubles and an 8-3 victory at number two to take home the first point of the match. The #1 doubles match went unfinished once Vanguard secured the point.

In singles, Vanguard won at numbers one, six, and five to garner the four points necessary in the win. UCR's Julian Ruffin came through with a 7-6 (8), 6-0 victory at number three, and Calvin Ngo defeated Robin Wagner 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5), 10-7 at #4 to give UCR two points in the match.

"It's tough competing against 25, 26, and 27 year olds," Head Coach Tim Downey stated. "They are stronger and have so much more experience. But the team put up a good fight, today. Julian and Calvin came up with big wins. This experience will help us improve."

Next on the Highlanders plate is a Wednesday, March 6 match against Stetson at 12 pm PT at Andulka Park.
