Gazzolo Places Fifth As Men's Golf Closes Out BWC Championship In Eighth

San Jacinto, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team closed out the Big West Conference Championship Tuesday in eighth place out of 10 teams with a three-round score of 912. David Gazzolo tied for fifth overall to pace the Highlanders with a three-day total of 219.
UCR was in eighth heading into the final round, and maintained that spot by shooting a 305 on Tuesday. The Highlanders placed ahead of both Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge, who fired identical 928 totals, and finished just four strokes back of UC Irvine (908) and six behind Hawai'i (906).
Pacific and Cal State Fullerton tied for the team title with an 887, but Pacific won the one-hole playoff to earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
UC Davis came in third place with an 890 while UC Santa Barbara was two strokes back with an 892 in fourth place, and Long Beach State finished in fifth at 894.
Individually, UCR's Gazzolo carded a one-under 71 on Tuesday to move up into the tie for fifth, just two strokes back of a three-way tie for first between CSF's Corey Gard, UCSB's Brett Silvernail, and Pacific's Eric Sugimoto.
The next three Highlanders players were all within four strokes of one another as Jason Semthiti tied for 29th with a 230 (75-75-80), Ryan Smith placed 35th with 79-76-77 (232), and Christian Rajcic tied for 37th with a 234 (77-78-79).
BJ Doucett rounded out the squad in 46th place with scores of 78-84-78 (240).
