Box Score - #16 Hawai'i 16, UC Riverside 0
Honolulu, HI - The UC Riverside Softball Team dropped a 16-0 decision to nationally ranked No. 16 Hawai'i Friday evening in game one of a three-game series in the Aloha State.
The Rainbow Wahine put an eight-spot on the board in the first inning to put the game out of reach. UCR pitcher Ashley Ercolano got the first batter to foul out, but Kayla Wartner hit a solo home run to jump start three straight hits as the next four baserunners each advanced. In total, Hawai'i recorded seven hits and left three runners on base batting around the order.
In the bottom of the third, Hawai'i scored an additional five runs to increase the margin to 13-0, and in the fourth, the Wahine scored three more as the lead extended to 16-0.
The Highlanders had baserunners on in each inning except the first, but in all frames UCR stranded its runners in scoring position.
The 16 runs scored by Hawai'i is the most UCR has allowed since UC Davis plated 17 on April 30, 2011.
The Big West series concludes Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 5 pm PT in Honolulu.
