Softball Falls Just Shy In 1-0 Loss At UC Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, CA—The UC Riverside Softball Team dropped a 1-0 decision to UC Santa Barbara Friday afternoon in game one of a Big West Conference doubleheader at the Campus Diamond.
The Gauchos (30-23, 11-11) scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first, and held on as the Highlanders (19-34, 3-19) left four runners on base, including two in the seventh.
With one out in the top of the seventh inning, Dionne Anderson singled and was able to advance all the way to third on an error. Ashley Ercolano reached on a fielder's choice, but as Anderson came home to score, she was called out at the plate in what would have been the tying run.
Down to their last out, Alexis Pickett drew a walk to again put the tying run on base, but a final strikeout ended the game as UCSB had the 1-0 win in hand.
In the first inning, the Gauchos converted with the bases loaded, utilizing Jessica Teztlaff's RBI single to score Adrianna Palomares for what would become the winning run.
Alyssa Razo was saddled with the loss for UCR, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up four hits. Sophie Slagle came on in relief and scattered just two hits the rest of the way.
Shelby Wisdom struck out nine batters picking up the win for UC Santa Barbara.
