Men's Soccer Still Unbeaten Following 1-1 Tie At CSU Bakersfield
9/19/2013 9:32:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Bakersfield, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team kept its season-opening unbeaten streak intact Thursday evening as they picked up a 1-1 tie at CSU Bakersfield (box score).
The result also snapped a five-game losing streak for the Highlanders against the Roadrunners dating back to 2008.
Alex Flores put the Runners (2-3-1) up 1-0 in the 23rd minute as his first goal of the season came on a header off of a Joe Masumiya corner kick.
The Highlanders (4-0-2) tied the score with three minutes and 25 seconds to go before the half when Aaron Long's penalty kick beat CSUB keeper Anthony Perez.
Neither team found the back of the net in the second half or either of the two overtime periods, but there was plenty of action as the referee handed out eight yellow cards after the half.
UC Riverside returns home this Sunday for a 6 pm kickoff against UNLV.
