University Of The Incarnate Word Scores Twice In First Half For 2-0 Win Over Men's Soccer

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team was hoping to bounce back from its loss to nationally-ranked UCLA earlier in the week, but the University of the Incarnate Word netted two first half goals en route to a 2-0 victory Sunday afternoon (Box Score).
The Cardinals outshot the Highlanders 8-5 in the first period, coming up with their first score in the 25th minute of play. Alex De La Garza rebounded his own missed shot and slotted it past UC Riverside keeper KC John.
Leon Taylor made it 2-0 Cardinals just prior to the end of the first half after intercepting a pass in the Highlanders defensive end and looping it over John's outstretched arms.
UC Riverside picked up the pace in the second period recording 11 shots in the final 45 minutes of play, but despite the increased offensive attack, the Highlanders were unable to get past the Cardinals' (3-3-0) defense.
The Highlanders (5-2-2) begin conference play this weekend with matches at Cal Poly on Friday at 8 pm PT and at UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at 5 pm.
