Irvine—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team has its second chance to pick up its first league victory of the 2013-14 season, traveling to UC Irvine on Saturday, January 11 for a 4 pm PT tip.
The Highlanders made a furious last-minute rally on Thursday against Cal State Fullerton, but could not complete the comeback falling 82-78 in their conference opener (box score/recap). Brittany Crain scored a game-high 25 points while Annelise Ito had 22, and Simone DeCoud added 17.
Crain continues to pace UCR's offense averaging a league-best 19.4 points per game. The next three Highlanders players—Ito, DeCoud, and Natasha Hadley—all average between 11.0 and 11.9 ppg.
UC Irvine lost in overtime at Long Beach State on Thursday, 84-75, to fall to 7-8 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Two players carry the majority of the offensive load, as Camille Buckley averages 14.8 points per game, and Jennifer Tsurumoto scores 14.6 a game.
Historically, UC Riverside owns a 30-15 all-time record against the Anteaters (view all-time results), but UCI has won two of the last three meetings including a 58-56 victory on February 14, 2013 (box score/recap).
