Poor Shooting Hurts Women's Basketball In 74-61 Loss To Hawai'i

Riverside - Despite three players in double-figures, the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team dropped a 74-61 decision to visiting Hawai'i on Saturday evening in Big West Conference action at the SRC Arena (Box Score).
The Highlanders hit just 33.9 percent of its shots from the floor while giving up 41.1 percent to the Rainbow Wahine. UH outscored UCR 37-22 in the first half, effectively sealing the win as the teams' played mostly even in the second half.
Brittany Crain scored 21 points to lead the Highlanders, while Simone DeCoud and Natasha Hadley each added 11. Shawna-Lei Kuehu had 22 points to lead all scorers, while Kamilah Jackson added 20 points and 14 rebounds for the 'Bows.
In the first half, Hawai'i turned a 12-7 lead into a 20-7 advantage following an 8-0 run. UC Riverside cut it to single-digits, 20-11, after consecutive baskets from Hadley and Crain, but the Rainbow Wahine pushed the margin out to 17 points, 30-13, after scoring 10 of the next 12.
UCR cut the margin down to 12 with a 7-2 run, but the 'Bows entered the half up by 15, 37-22
Hawai'i added to its advantage in the second period, leading by as many as 21 points on three occasions, the last at 56-35 with 9:26 to go. The Highlanders made a push, though, cutting the margin to 13 less than two minutes later.
Hawai'i's lead reached as high as 17 again, until UCR made another rally, cutting the game to just 11, 68-57, with 2:15 remaining.
That was as close as the Highlanders would come, however, as the teams traded baskets to conclude the game, with the 'Bows winning 74-61.
UC Riverside now hits the road for its annual Central Coast trip, traveling to UC Santa and Cal Poly on January 23 and 25 respectively.
