Riverside, CA—For the sixth time in the last seven years, and for the ninth time since the Highlanders joined the Big West Conference in 2001, UC Riverside's Ag/Ops Course will play host to the Big West Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 1.
The schedule is as follows:
8:30 am – Men's 8k
9:15 am – Women's 6k
9:55 am – Awards
UCR seniors Raquel Hefflin and Seth Totten will look to challenge for the individual championship on the women's and men's sides respectively. Hefflin won two events this year and has two other second-place finishes, while Totten has one win and three other top-seven finishes. Both have been named the Big West Athlete of the Week on three occasions in 2014.
The Highlanders women's team looks to claim its second-ever Big West team championship after taking home the crown in 2008. UCR finished in fourth in 2010 and 2012 and in fifth place in 2009 and 2011. The men's squad seeks a return to the top half of the league following a seventh-place finish last season.
The Ag/Ops Course is located adjacent to campus on the 420-acre Citrus Research Center and Agricultural Experiment Station on the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Canyon Crest Drive. The course is 85 percent flat with a few rolling hills, hard packed dirt with pre-competition watering to reduce dust.
Parking for home cross country meets is in Lot 30 located in the Northwest corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Canyon Crest Drive. Shuttles will be available to transport spectators from the parking lot to the course and back to the parking lot. A $5 fee is payable to the attendant on site. If no attendant is present, please use the dispenser located in the lot. Media parking is available at the course.
To reach the Ag/Ops Course from the 215/60 freeway, exit Martin Luther King and go West. Turn left at the Canyon Crest traffic light and travel approximately 300 meters to the course entrance. For parking in Lot 30, continue straight on Martin Luther King.
Ticketing for the event is $5. Children age three and under are free.
