Men's Tennis Wins Doubles Point But Falters In Singles, Losing 5-2 To Grand Canyon

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team won the doubles point on Friday against Grand Canyon, but faltered in singles before falling 5-2 to the Antelopes.
The Highlanders number one and two doubles duos both earned victories to give UCR the first point of the match. Cooper Bridge and Michael Carella won 6-2 at the top spot, while Julian Ruffin and Marcus Vizcarra earned a 6-4 victory at the second.
Needing at least a split in singles to win, UC Riverside came up just short as Ruffin was the only player to come away with the victory, defeating Adrain Legarretta 6-5, 6-3 at number three.
UCR did have two additional matches go to three sets—Luis Gastao at #1 and Sean Yun at #6—but both went in favor of Grand Canyon.
"We let another match slip away today," Head Coach Tim Downey stated. "There will be changes going forward as we are learning some difficult lessons."
The Highlanders now prepare for a February 19 contest against UC San Diego at 12 pm PT at Andulka Park in Riverside.
