Softball Picks Up First Victory Of Season With 5-3 Win Over Bakersfield

Fresno, CA—The UC Riverside Softball Team picked up its first victory of the 2014 season Friday afternoon with a 5-3 win over Bakersfield in game one of the Fresno State Kick Off. Box Score.
Alyssa Razo pitched 6.1 innings allowing just two hits and no runs while earning the win.
The Highlanders got on board in the first inning as Dionne Anderson scored from third on Karina Romero's fielder's choice.
That score held until the fourth, while Razo gave way to Sophie Slagle in the circle. Slagle gave up three runs on three hits, however, as Bakersfield went up 3-1.
Razo re-entered the game to pitch, and held the Roadrunners to just two hits the rest of the way as UCR's offense picked things up in the fifth and sixth innings.
In the fifth, UC Riverside tied the game as Sommer Wilson's double to left field scored Ashley Ercolano, who singled to center field with one out. Haley Harris then drove in Wilson with her RBI double to left center as the game was tied 3-3.
Anderson scored the go ahead run in the next inning, as she came home following another Romero hit. Ercolano's double to left field then scored Romero, giving the Highlanders another insurance run, 5-3.
Razo retired the Runners in order in the top of the seventh to propel the blue and gold to victory.
The Highlanders now face off against Fresno State Friday evening in game two of the Kick Off Tournament.
