Sacramento State Hands Softball 9-1 Loss In Five Innings

Fresno, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team continued play at the Fresno State Kick Off Saturday with a 9-1 loss in five innings to Sacramento State. Box Score.
After picking up her first victory of the season on Friday against Bakersfield, UCR pitcher Alyssa Razo got the start against the Hornets, but gave up three runs in 2.2 innings of work. Sac State scored a single run in the second and two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
Razo gave way to Sophie Slagle in the circle, but the sophomore did not fair better, allowing five runs to score in the fourth as the Hornets lead grew to 8-0.
UC Riverside got one run back in the top of the fifth as Kris DeAnda singled to lead off the frame, and came home on a Shylene Helms double, cutting the margin to 8-1.
Sacramento State countered in its respective fifth inning, loading the bases and scoring one run to earn the eight-run rule victory in five innings.
The Highlanders have one more day at the Fresno State Kick Off, facing off against Southern Utah Sunday at 9 am PT, followed by an 11:15 am contest against Sacramento State.
