Razo Picks Up Second Win Of The Day As Softball Wins Game Two, 4-2, Over Knights
3/12/2014 4:48:00 PM | Softball
Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team completed its doubleheader sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday with a 4-2 win in game two after defeating the Knights 6-2 in the opener. Box Score.
Alyssa Razo earned her second win of the day tossing a four-hit, seven inning game.
Fairleigh Dickinson got to Razo early, though, scoring two runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. UCR cut the lead in half in the bottom of that frame, however, as Ashley Ercolano hit a solo home run to left field, 2-1.
With one out in the third, Dionne Anderson drew a walk and promptly stole second. Karina Romero reached on a fielding error by the FDU thirdbaseman, and both runners executed a double steal to advance one base. Haley Harris then laid down a squeeze bunt as Anderson came home to tie the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Highlanders scored the winning run on a two-out rally. Stephanie Tickemyer singled to left field, and came all the way home on a double from Shylene Helms.
The next inning, Anderson led off with a double, and moved to third on Romero's sac bunt. With two outs, Natalie Sanchez laced a single to right field to score Anderson as the Highlanders advantage reached 4-2.
FDU put the tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh, but Razo got Madelaine Wilen to line out to the short stop for the final out.
The UC Riverside Softball Team now has a week off before competing against Monmouth and Dartmouth in a doubleheader on Thursday, March 20 at Amy S. Harrison Field in Riverside.
