Harris' Walk-Off Grand Slam Lifts Softball To 6-5 Come-From-Behind Win Over Dartmouth

Riverside, CA - Haley Harris hit a walk-off grand slam for the UC Riverside Softball Team Thursday afternoon in a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Dartmouth at Amy S. Harrison Field. Box Score.
The Highlanders were down 5-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but scored five runs to claim the victory. It is the ninth come-from-behind win for UCR this season, and the first walk-off home run since February 24, 2013 in a 7-5 victory over Weber State.
In the third inning, Dartmouth took a 1-0 advantage following a Kristen Rumley single up the middle to score Brianna Lohmann from second. That lead didn't last long, however, as the Highlanders scored the equalizer in the bottom of that frame. With two outs and runners at second and third, Harris singled to left field to drive in one.
The Big Green made it 2-1 in the fifth as Lohmann blasted a solo homer to left field. The next inning, Karen Chaw saw her at bat extended on a dropped foul ball, and she made the Highlanders pay hitting a solo homer to put Dartmouth on top, 3-1.
UC Riverside left two runners stranded on base in the sixth, and in the top of the seventh, the Big Green added a pair of insurance runs to extend their margin to 5-1.
The Highlanders were down to their last three outs in the bottom of the seventh, but rallied. With one out, Shylene Helms drew a walk, and consecutive singles by Marissa Escalate and Dionne Anderson loaded the bases.
Karina Romero then singled to left center to drive in the first run, 5-2. That gave way to Harris, who hit her second homer of the season, a walk-off grand slam, to empty the bases for the victory.
Harris ended the day with five RBI going 2-for-4 with one run.
UC Riverside now heads to the LMU Invitational II for four games on Friday-Saturday, March 21-22 in Los Angeles, CA.
