Davis, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team is in the home stretch of the 2013-14 season with just two games left on the docket. First up is the regular season road finale on Thursday, March 6 at UC Davis, followed by a Saturday, March 8 home finale against Long Beach State. Both games are set to tip at 7 pm PT.
The Highlanders are ninth in the league standings but are still in the hunt for the eighth and final Big West Tournament spot. Different scenarios abound for UCR to make the tourney, with the easiest being winning both games combined with two UC Santa Barbara losses. If the Highlanders split their games and UCSB loses twice, that would force a tie, and would be decided by win-loss record in conference games against common opponents.
UCR almost upset league-leading Cal State Northridge last Saturday, and had a shot to win at the buzzer before falling 77-75. All five starters scored in double-digits in a game that saw the Highlanders rally back from 10 points down to take a 14 point lead (box score/recap).
UC Davis, winners of its last three games, is currently in the fourth spot in the conference standings with an 8-6 mark. The next three teams are all just one game back, however, with identical 7-7 records. The Aggies are led in scoring by Sydnee Fipps, whose 18.1 points per game is second only to UC Riverside's Brittany Crain, at 18.9 ppg.
The last time the Highlanders and Aggies squared off, UCR rallied back from 11 points down to tie the game at the half, but UC Davis scored 10 more points in the second period to secure the 77-67 victory (box score/recap). View All-Time Results.
