Razo Tosses Complete Game Shutout As Softball Takes Series From Titans, 6-0

Fullerton, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team won its first conference series of the year Sunday with a 6-0 shutout of Cal State Fullerton (Box Score). The Highlanders (21-21, 2-7) split the doubleheader against the Titans (24-16-1, 5-4) Saturday, winning 6-3 before falling 4-2 in the nightcap.
It is the first Big West series win for UCR since taking two of three from Cal Poly on April 27-28, 2013.
Alyssa Razo tossed a complete-game shutout for UC Riverside, scattering five hits while striking out three.
The Highlanders offense was consistent throughout the game, scoring runs in four of the seven innings.
The blue and gold got on the board in the first following a Karina Romero solo home run. The next inning, the score became 2-0 after Kris DeAnda's RBI double scored pinch-runner Shylene Helms from second.
In the fifth, UC Riverside increased its margin to 5-0 scoring three runs on three hits and one CSF error.
Dionne Anderson singled with one out, and Romero reached on the error. Both runners then stole a base, and Ashley Ercolano's single to left field scored Anderson from third. Haley Harris then lifted a sac fly to center to score Romero, and Natalie Sanchez's double scored Ercolano for the third run of the inning.
The Highlanders completed their scoring in the sixth as Sommer Wilson homered to left center.
On the day, Sanchez went 2-for-3 while Anderson hit 2-of-4.
UCR continues Big West action hosting Cal State Northridge on April 18-19 for a three-game series at Amy S. Harrison Field in Riverside.
