Softball Drops Series Opener To Matadors, 8-0

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team (21-22, 2-8) lost its series opener to Cal State Northridge, 8-0, Friday afternoon in Big West Conference action at Amy S. Harrison Field. Box Score.
CSUN (27-19, 4-6) pitcher Brianna Elder scattered five hits while striking out five to limit the Highlanders offense.
Early in the game, both UCR and the Matadors stranded three runners on base in the second inning, but in the third, CSUN took a 3-0 lead.
Two singles sandwiched around an out put runners at first and second, but a passed ball moved both up one base. Taylor Nate followed with a single to centerfield to score the first run, and a double from Katelyn Hooper cleared the bases for the 3-0 margin.
An inning later, Taylor Glover blasted a two-RBI homer to right field to give Cal State Northridge a 5-0 advantage.
In the seventh, Glover hit her second homer of the game, another two-RBI shot to right field, as the Matadors lead increased to 7-0. Hooper then came through with her second single later that frame to drive in the final run of the game, 8-0.
After the second inning in which UC Riverside stranded three runners, the blue and gold only stranded one additional runner the rest of the game, failing to score for the third time in 10 league games.
Alyssa Razo was saddled with the loss for the Highlanders, giving up the first five runs of the game in 5.0 innings of work.
