4/14/2014 4:25:00 PM | Men's Tennis
Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team won matches in both singles and doubles Monday against Hawai'i, but the Rainbow Warriors pulled out the 6-1 victory in Big West Conference action at Andulka Park.
UH claimed an 8-4 doubles win at #1, and earned a close-fought 8-7 win at #2 to take the doubles point. UCR's number three duo of Luis Gastao and Sean Robles came through with an 8-5 win to prevent the sweep.
In singles, Cooper Bridge won in a tiebreaker, 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 at number two over Nils Schuhmann. Hawai'i won in straight sets in each of the other five matches, but the Highlanders played them tough with two of the sets going to 7-5.
"The boys played very tough, and we were so close to being a threat," Head Coach Tim Downey stated. "We came close to surprising them in the doubles. Cooper played a solid match in singles, and Marcus and Jack nearly pulled them out at number two doubles."
UC Riverside has just one regular season match on its docket, traveling to UC Irvine on Wednesday, April 16 at 3 pm PT in Irvine, CA.
