Softball Falls In Series Finale To Long Beach State, 15-4
4/6/2014 3:48:00 PM | Softball
Long Beach, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team looked to bounce back from a doubleheader loss at Long Beach State Saturday with Sunday's Big West Conference series finale, but the 49ers offense proved too potent in a 15-4 victory. Box Score.
LBSU (29-9, 6-0) scored 11 runs on seven hits in the second inning, sending 12 batters to the plate as the Highlanders (19-20, 0-6) used all three of its pitchers to try and stop the rally. An inning later, Long Beach added to its lead with four more runs to go up 15-0.
UC Riverside did not give up, and scored two runs apiece in both the fourth and fifth innings.
In the fourth, Ashley Ercolano homered with a runner on base to put UCR on the board.
In the fifth, UC Riverside strung together hits as Dionne Anderson's triple scored Kris DeAnda, and Karina Romero's single scored Anderson.
Unfortunately for the Highlanders, they could not cut the 49ers lead any closer in that inning, and the game ended with the mercy rule taking effect and giving LBSU the 15-4 victory.
UCR remains on the road in league play traveling to Cal State Fullerton for a three-game series April 12-13 in Fullerton, CA.
