Softball Shutout Out By UC Santa Barbara, 3-0, In Game Two Of Doubleheader

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team dropped the second game of Saturday's Big West Conference doubleheader to UC Santa Barbara, 3-0, as the Gauchos earned the series win following a 4-1 game-one victory earlier in the day. Box Score.
The Highlanders had opportunities to score early, but stranded a runner at third in both the first and second innings.
Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for UCSB in the third, and Kathryn Pilpil came through with a single to left field to score the runner from third and stake the Gauchos to a 1-0 lead.
UCR looked to get that run back in the bottom of that frame, as Dionne Anderson and Karina Romero both singled with one out to put two runners on, but a double play ground out ended the inning before a run could score.
The Gauchos added on to their lead in the fifth as Lauren Boser singled with the bases loaded to plate two making it 3-0.
The Highlanders continued to push for a score, and in the bottom of the seventh, rallied as Taylor Wright doubled to lead off, and Nicolette Lujan singled to make it runners on the corners with two outs. That brought the tying run to the plate, but a final fly out ended any comeback chance for UC Riverside.
Pitcher Shelby Wisdom earned her second win of the day for the Guachos, while Sophie Slagle was saddled with the loss for UCR.
The Highlanders face off against UCSB on Sunday, May 4 at 12 pm in their final regular home game of the season. Prior to first pitch, UC Riverside will celebrate senior day by honoring its lone member of the class of 2014: Dionne Anderson.
