Hefflin Sets Course Record In Win As Women's XC Finishes 3rd At Twilight Classic

Sparks, NV - UC Riverside senior Raquel Hefflin won the 4k College/Open Women's cross country race Friday evening at the Nevada Twilight Classic, setting a new course record in the process with a time of 14:06. This marks her second-ever career individual win, as she outpaced her closest competitor by 23 seconds. Full Results

Hefflin helped the Highlanders women's team to a third place finish out of six squads. Host Nevada won the women's 4k with 34 points followed by Utah with 43, UCR with 71, UCLA at 87, St. Mary's with 138, and LA Trade Tech at 155.

Behind Hefflin, UCR redshirt freshman Faith Makau finished in 12th place individually with a time of 15:27 while Brianna Simmons was 18th at 15:41. Maryann Holliday placed 22nd, Weslie Totten 24th, and Elizabeth Guzman 36th to round out the squad.

The Highlanders now return to Mammoth, CA to continue training at high altitude before hosting the UC Riverside Invitational on September 13 at the Ag/Ops Course in Riverside.
