Hefflin Finishes 2nd Overall As Women's XC Places 6th Out Of 21 At Stanford Invite

Palo Alto, CA - UC Riverside's Raquel Hefflin was the runner-up in the 6k Stanford Invitational on Saturday, finishing in 20:39, just eight seconds behind the winner, Washington State's Abby Regan. Hefflin's time was also just eight seconds behind her career-best 6k performance. Complete Results.

The senior guided the Highlanders Women's Cross Country Team to a sixth place finish out of 21 squads in the competition scored for Division I teams; an additional 19 squads competed in the non-Division I race.

The host Cardinal won the Division I event with 71 points followed by a pair of fellow Big West schools, UC Davis in second, and Cal Poly in third. Loyola Marymount and Washington State rounded out the top-five. The Highlanders beat out five other Big West schools with their sixth place finish in UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State, CSUN, UC Irvine, and Hawai'i.

Behind Hefflin's second place finish, Faith Makau was 20th overall with a time of 21:37, while Weslie Totten was 48th in a PR time of 22:13. Brianna Simmons placed 61st overall in 22:31 while Elizabeth Guzman finished 150th with a time of 23:25, and Maryann Holliday placed 190th in 23:47.

The UCR Women's Cross Country Team next returns to action hosting the Highlander Invitational on Saturday, October 18 at the Ag/Ops Course in Riverside, CA.
