
TOTALLY TARDIS TUESDAY: Men's Soccer Records First Win Over A Top-25 Program In D-I Era

Riverside—Scotty Highlander is getting all timey wimey with The Doctor, traveling through the universe to help us relive the most important events in UC Riverside Athletics history. This week, he takes us back to September 4, 2007 when the UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team recorded its first win over a Top-25 program in its Division I era defeating #21 San Diego State, 2-0.
Cito Soriano put the Highlanders on top in the 13th minute of play, and Joel Crompton tacked on an insurance goal with 10:51 remaining in the match for UC Riverside's two scores. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Charles Alamo kept the back of his net clean with four saves.
The Highlanders would go on to post their best record to date at 5-6-8, missing out on the program's first winning record by just one victory. Soriano led the team in scoring with four goals and three assists, while Crompton tied for second on the team with three goals. Alamo recorded six shutouts on the year, and posted a goals against average of 1.03 earning Big West Goalkeeper of the Year honors at season's end.
