Men's Basketball Falls 69-55 At UC Irvine

Box Score Irvine, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team ran into an offensive buzzaw Saturday evening, as UC Irvine scored the first 10 point of the game, going on to defeat the Highlanders, 69-55.

The loss drops UC Riverside to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in conference. The Highlanders were trying to match the 2008-09 squad as the only UCR team to start a Big West season with wins in each of its first two games.

They couldn't contain the Anteaters (8-8, 1-1) though, as Irvine made 54.9 percent of its shots on the night, including seven of 10 from three-point range.

Jaron Martin scored a game-high 16 points thanks in part to four of six shooting from beyond the arc. Alex Young (14 points) and Mamadou Ndiaye (10) joined Martin in double figures.

Taylor Johns and Jaylen Bland were the lone Highlanders to score in double digits with 12 points apiece. They combined to shoot 10 of 24 form the field while the rest of the team went 11 for 20.

The Highlanders return home this week for games Thursday against UC Davis at 7 pm PT, and Saturday vs. Hawai'i on ESPNU at 8:30 pm.
