Northridge— The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team gets back on the road this Thursday, as the Highlanders head to CSUN to try and build on their two-game win streak. Tip is set for 4 pm PT.
UC Riverside is coming off an 82-78 victory over Cal Poly. Brittany Crain led the Highlanders with 22 points against the Mustangs. She shot five of seven from the free-throw line, all of which occurred in the final minute of the game to help the Highlanders hold on to their lead.
That performance extended her program Division I era record of consecutive double-digit scoring efforts to 29 straight games. Crain leads the Big West with a 23.8 points per game scoring average which is also the fifth highest average in the nation as of January 26.
After missing six straight games with an injury, Simone DeCoud played 33 minutes, scoring 14 points and shooting 50 percent from the floor.
Annelise Ito has averaged 13.5 points in her first four games back since sustaining an injury and rounds out the top-10 leading scorers in the conference.
Also contributing to the Highlanders' scoring efforts last week was Michelle Curry, nabbing her second career double-double, with 14 points and 10 boards against Cal Poly.
At 12-8 overall, UC Riverside is off to its best start since the 1997-98 season when the Highlanders won 13 of their first 20 games.
CSUN heads into the week following a 67-52 victory over front-running Long Beach State. It was the 49ers' their first loss in conference play and only their second loss of the season.
The Matadors have three players ranked in the top 10 in the conference in scoring. They are led by Ashlee Guay who ranks fifth, averaging 15.4 points per game. Janae Sharpe and Cinnamon Lister rank seventh and eighth, averaging 12.8 and 12.4 points, respectively.
The Highlanders lead the overall series against CSUN, 31-29, but the Matadors have won the last six meetings between the teams.
