Women's Soccer Outshoots UC Irvine, But Falls 1-0

Box Score Irvine, CA—The UC Riverside Women's soccer Team outshot UC Irvine, 10-7, on the road Sunday afternoon, but it was the Anteaters who picked up a second-half goal to secure the 1-0 victory.

In addition to outshooting UC Irvine, the Highlanders (6-6-0, 0-1-0) had eight corner kicks to five for the 'Eaters, but despite its best efforts, UC Riverside couldn't dent the back of the net. The Highlanders had their best scoring opportunity with less than six minutes gone in the match when Tyler Cunningham's shot was saved by an Irvine defender, and Kyra Taylor's shot was blocked by another member of the Anteaters' defense.

UC Irvine's (5-6-1, 1-0-0) Claudia Lopez broke the scoreless tie in the 64th minute when Kiana Palacis dropped the ball back to her just outside the UCR box. Lopez's subsequent shot beat the UC Riverside defense to put the 'Eaters up 1-0.

The Highlanders return home this week for conference matches against Hawai'i on Friday, October 9 at 7 pm and UC Davis on Sunday, October 11 at 1 pm.
