Riverside— The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team travels to UC Irvine this Saturday after dropping just its second home game of the season to Hawai'i 72-69 Thursday night. Tip is slated for 2 pm PT.
UC Riverside's five-game win streak was halted by the Rainbow Warriors in a 40 minute, back-and-forth offensive battle. Simone DeCoud led the Highlanders with 22 points, tying her season-high and making good on 3-of-6 attempts from behind the arc. She now ranks ninth among the top-scorers in the conference.
Brittany Crain's 16-point performance extended her program Division I era record of consecutive double-digit scoring efforts to 33 straight games. Crain leads the Big West with a 23.7 points per game scoring average which is also the fourth highest average in the nation as of February 12.
Annelise Ito is averaging 14.0 points in her eight games back since sustaining an injury and ranks eighth in the conference in scoring. Against Hawai'i, Ito recorded 10 points and five rebounds.
Freshman Michelle Curry notched 17 points against Hawai'i for her sixth-straight game of double-digit scoring. Curry also handed out a team-high 5 assists, tying for the game-high with Hawaii's Briana Harris.
At 15-9 overall, UC Riverside is off to its best start since the 1994-95 season when the Highlanders won 17 of their first 24 games.
UC Irvine heads into Saturday, after going a week without competition. The 'Eaters last played at UC Davis Feb. 7, dropping the game 79-69.
UCI's leading scorer is six-foot sophomore Mokun Fajemisin , who averages 12.2 points per game. No other players for the Anteaters average double-digit points.
The Highlanders lead the overall series against UC Irvine, 32-16, after winning the most recent meeting, 71-58 on January 10 earlier this year.
