Pullman, WA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team travels to Washington State this weekend for a four-game series against the Cougars beginning with a 6 pm PT first pitch on Thursday, February 26.
The Highlanders are trying to snap a three-game losing streak and will send right-hander Keaton Leach to the mound for his third start of the season. The junior has seven strikeouts in each of his first two starts on the year, lasting five-and-two-thirds innings in picking up the win vs. Portland on February 14, and going seven innings at San Diego State in game UC Riverside won, 3-2.
UCR started the year with a four-game sweep of visiting Portland, but dropped three of four last weekend in a home and home series with San Diego State.
As a team, the Highlanders are hitting.304/.368/.428 and boast seven regulars hitting better than .300 on the year. The opposition is batting at a .294/.361/.381 clip.
Washington State is 4-4 on the year with wins over Texas-Arlington, Stephen F. Austin, Oklahoma and Kansas. They are hitting just .191/.338/.241 on the season, and their pitching staff has been touched for 10 or more runs in a game on three occasions, allowing a .300/.404/.374 slash line.
The Highlanders are 5-4 all-time against the Cougars (
