Volleyball Drops Pair Of Matches At Fresno State's Bulldog Showdown

Fresno, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Volleyball Team dropped a pair of matches Friday at the Bulldog Showdown, falling 3-0 to host Fresno State and 3-1 to Sacramento State.
The Highlanders (3-6) took early leads in all three sets against the Bulldogs, but in each instance, Fresno State went on a mid-set run to take control, winning the match 25-18, 25-20, 25-20.
Alex Gresham and Alexis Urbach logged eight and six kills, respectively while Chelsea Doyle was credited with 14 assists and Maddie Hubbell added 15 digs on the defensive end.
In the evening match, the Highlanders trailed by two, 20-18, in the first set against Sac State (8-1), but the Hornets won five of the final seven points for the 25-20 win. In set number two, UCR and Sacramento State were knotted up at eight points apiece, but the Hornets went on a 14-4 run en route to a 25-15 victory.
The Highlanders rebounded in set number three, winning 25-14, but in the fourth set the Hornets won eight of the final nine points to close out the match, 25-19.
Helena Peric recorded 15 kills in the match for UCR while Urbach added 11. Doyle's 26 assists paced the team while Hubbell led the Highlanders with 16 digs.
The Highlanders are back in action Saturday, September 12 taking on Central Michigan for the first time in Division I history at 10 am PT.
