Hannah Facchini Sets Program Record With A 66 In Round One Of The Las Vegas Showdown
10/23/2016 5:44:00 PM | Women's Golf
Boulder Creek, NV—Hannah Facchini broke the UCR Women's Golf program single round record today with a bogey-free six-under par 66 in leading the team to a school record four-under par 284 team  total in round one of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Country Club.(Round 1 results)
The previous record was set by Savannah Vialubi in 2014, also in round one of the Las Vegas Showdown at Boulder Creek Country Club (story). In that event, the Highlanders shot a then school record one-under 287, which was bested in the 2016 Battle at the Rock final round (286). (single-round records)
Facchini (Hanford, CA), who is tied for the overall lead, had a bogey-free round that featured six birdies, and culminated with a birdie on her final hole of the day, the 540 yard, par 5 16th—the longest hole on the course (scorecard).
She shot 33 on each side, and carded birdies on two of the course's four par 5s. "It was a really clean round today. All I really thought about was going under par. Making a bogey never crossed my mind ... I just had a different mindset today.", said Facchini.
Jakeishya Le (T5) matched her career-high with a four-under 68 in a round that included six birdies against just two bogeys. Le fired her career-best round last season in the second round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, following an opening round 82 (story).
UCR combined for program record four-under par 284 as a team, and is tied for seventh with the 14th ranked Texas Longhorns. The overall team lead belongs to Baylor at -15, five shots clear of Idaho in second, and seven ahead of San Diego State and host UNLV in third at -8.
Tomorrows second round gets underway at 8:00 am PT for the Highlanders off holes 6-8.Â
