Women's Soccer Makes It Two Straight With 1-0 Win Over Visiting Cal Poly

Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team picked up its second straight shutout Sunday afternoon as the Highlanders topped visiting Cal Poly, 1-0.

As she did in Friday's win over UC Santa Barbara, senior Blanca Barrio (San Bernardino, CA) played a key role in the outcome. Her corner kick with less than 10 seconds remaining before intermission found freshman Amanda Roy (San Diego, CA) on the far side of the box. Roy redirected the kick to the near post for her first score of the season, and that proved to be all the offense the Highlanders (5-10-3, 2-5-0) would need.

The win moved UC Riverside ahead of Cal Poly (6-10-2, 1-5-1) in the Big West standings, and to within one point of UC Santa Barbara, Hawai'i and UC Davis in fifth place. Hawai'i takes on Cal State Fullerton this evening at 7 pm PT.
