Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team evened its record at 1-1 Sunday afternoon with an 81-45 victory over visiting Bristol University.
Secean Johnson's 12 points led three Highlanders in double figures, as Coach Cutts spread out his playing time evenly with 10 members of the team logged between 10 and 24 minutes.
Malik Thames added 11 points, and Chance Murray chipped in with 10 as the duo each scored in double figures for the second straight game. UC Riverside's starters shot 19 for 36 from the field, and committed just two turnovers.
The Highlanders' bench made its living on the glass as Gentrey Thomas (12 rebounds) and Eric Rwahwire (9) each established career highs. The team's 38 defensive rebounds are the fourth most in program history.
Bristol led just two times on the day, the last a one-point advantage, 11-10, with 14:26 to go in the first. The Highlanders scored the next nine points to go up 10, and led by 17 at the break. Thames scored all 11 of his points prior to intermission.
Rwahwire just missed out on a double-double in the second period posting nine points and rebounds. Koh Flippin's three-pointer with 29 seconds remaining gave UC Riverside its final margin of victory.
The Highlanders return to the road this week for a Wednesday, November 16 trip to UNLV. Tip is slated for 7 pm PT. They then head back to the Inland Empire for Homecoming on Saturday, November 19 where they take on Fresno Pacific at 4 pm.
