Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team got five strong innings from starter Angel Landazuri, and some key base hits late to upend visiting San Diego, Tuesday, 3-2.

It was the fifth win in six games for the Highlanders who took two of three over the weekend from #17 Long Beach State.

They trailed early, though, as San Diego jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second thanks to back-to-back one out singles, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Daniel Gardner.

The Highlanders tied the score in the bottom of the third with two swings of the bat as Thomas Walker led off the frame with a double to left center, and Michael Farris followed with a single up the middle to make it a 1-1 ballgame.

Landazuri made his first start since April 3, and pitched a gem, scattering seven hits, and allowing just one run in five innings. He didn't figure in the decision, though, as he left with the score tied at one.

Max Compton tossed a scoreless inning of relief before turning the game over to Jared Morton (1-0), and after Morton retired the side in order in the top of the seventh, the Highlander made him the pitcher of record by plating a pair of runs. Relief pitcher Wes Judish (0-2) retired Austin Colvin to start the inning, but issued back-to-back walks to Michael Farris and Mark Contreras. Drake Zarate then singled up the middle scoring Farris, and one batter later, Aaron Cisneros singled up the middle to make it 3-1 UC Riverside.

The Toreros scored a run in the top of the ninth, but Ryan Lillie recorded the final three outs for his fifth save of the season.

The Highlanders remaining at home this week hosting CSUN for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 pm PT.
