Softball Drops Double Header At Cal Poly

San Luis Obispo-The UC Riverside Softball Team dropped both games of the double header at Cal Poly. The Highlanders fell  3-1 in the first game of the day, and 2-1 in the second.

UC Riverside 1, Cal Poly 3

The first game of the day saw the Mustangs get out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, when Sierra Hyland scored on an error by pitcher Tayler Misfeldt and Stephanie Heyward came across a wild pitch to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the second Heyward singled in a run with two outs.

Hyland was in the circle for Cal Poly, and kept UC Riverside scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when Chelsey Holley drove the first pitch she saw over the center field fence to make it a 3-1 game. The Highlanders got a hit from Hannah Rodriguez in the fifth, but left her stranded and they went retired in order in the sixth and seventh.

Hyland would pick up the complete game victory and Misfeldt would take the loss.

UC Riverside 1, Cal Poly 2

In the second game of the day, the Highlanders got on the board right away in the top of the first. Maddy Richard walked to lead off the game, then stole second base and was brought Holley, who tripled down the right field line with two outs to score Richard. The Mustangs would answer in the home half of the inning with an RBI single from Heyward to tie the game at one apiece.

The game would remain tied until the bottom of the third, when Cal Poly got a sac fly from Hyland for the go-ahead run. Stephanie Tickemyer led off the top of the seventh and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Shylene Helms. Rodriguez the bounced out to the first baseman and Tickemyer advanced to third on the play, bringing Richard to the plate. She would line an 0-2 offering to the shortstop to end the game.

The UC Riverside Softball Team will conclude its season tomorrow at 1 pm against Cal Poly.
