Fullerton, CA—The Cal State Fullerton Baseball Team scored single runs in the first and second innings Friday evening, and held UC Riverside to five hits on the night to pick up a 2-1 victory.
Connor Seibold tossed seven innings of four-hit, shutout baseball to pick up his sixth win of the season against three defeats for the Titans (28-16, 10-3). The Highlanders put just two runners into scoring position during those seven innings, and Seibold's teammates staked him to an early lead thanks to RBI singles by Tanner Pinkston in the first and Tristan Hildebrandt in the second.
Cal State Fullerton brought Scott Serigstad in to pitch the top of the eighth, and pinch hitter Yeager Taylor greeted him with a solo shot to right, slicing the Titans lead in half. Serigstad retired the next six Highlanders in order, however, striking out four to close out the win, and earn his third save of the season.
Austin Sodders (4-4) took the loss despite allowing just nine hits, striking out six without walking a batter in his seven innings of work.
The Highlanders (20-22, 7-6) and Titans play the second game of their three-game Big West Conference series, Saturday, May 7 beginning at 1 pm PT.
