Industry Hills, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team readies for its first event of the 2017 season—the Folino Invitational—at Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms. Cal State Fullerton hosts the 10-team competition, taking place January 30-31.
The Highlanders ended the Fall season with a 12th place finish at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite, where Matt Lutz fired a seven-under par 64 in the second round.
Andrew Spilman and Michael Wong shot one-over par 73s in the final round, while Pachara Sakulyong had his best round of the tournament, carding a two-over par 74 (story).
Last season at the Folino Invitational, UCR moved into second place on day one, and remained there through the completion of the tournament. Lutz tied for third, and Sam Gillis finished in a tie for fifth.
The two day tournament starts with 36 holes on Monday, and ends with 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days begin with a 7:30 am shotgun start.
Expected to compete for the Highlanders will be Sam Gillis, Matt Lutz, Pachara Sakulyong, Andrew Spilman, and Michael Wong. They will be paired with a trio of Big West conference schools in the opening round; UC Irvine, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara.
