Irvine, CA—UC Riverside Men's Soccer midfielders Ricardo Ruiz (Honorable Mention) and Daniel Aguirre (All-Freshman) have been named to the Big West All-Conference Teams, the Big West announced on Tuesday.
Ruiz earns his second career All-Big West honor in his senior year, serving as one of UC Riverside's top playmakers on the attacking front for the entire season. He finished the regular season with five points, coming from two goals and one assist.
The Lake Elsinore, California native provided the Highlanders with a memorable goal in a 2-0 win against UC Davis on October 7 (Box Score/Recap), scoring on a counterattack in the 90th minute to put away UCR's first win of the season. He also assisted on an 80th minute game-winning goal by James Alewine III with a well-placed cross in another crucial 2-1 win over Cal State Fullerton on October 14 (Box Score/Recap).Â
The first of Ruiz' goals this season came in a 3-2 loss to Oregon State back on September 3 (Box Score/Recap). He heads into the postseason ranked No. 3 in program history with 12 career assists.
All-Freshman honoree Daniel Aguirre has been another danger man for the Highlanders out of the midfield, starting in 11 of his 16 appearances this season. The Palo Alto, California native was crucial down the stretch as UC Riverside made its late push for the postseason, tallying at least one point in each of UC Riverside's final three matches.
Aguirre nabbed his first career goal in a 1-1 draw with Cal State Fullerton on October 21 (Box Score/Recap). He also tallied an assist in each of the Highlanders' final two wins, against UC Irvine on October 25 (Box Score/Recap), and CSUNÂ on October 28 (Box Score/Recap).
