Former Head Men's Soccer Coach Junior Gonzalez Joins LA Galaxy Coaching Staff

Los Angeles, CA—Former UC Riverside Head Men's Soccer Coach Junior Gonzalez was named an assistant coach on the LA Galaxy's technical staff, the club announced last week.
Gonzalez served as the Highlanders' head coach for nine years from 2004-12 before accepting an assistant coaching job with former Major League Soccer club Chivas USA in 2013. From 2001-2003, he helped restart the UC Riverside Men's Soccer program as an assistant coach as the team began competing at the Division I level for the first time.
During his time at UCR, Gonzalez coached 30 All-Big West Conference honorees, two Big West Players of the Year, six future MLS and USL players, and was named Big West Coach of the Year in 2011.
Prior to signing with the Galaxy, Gonzalez spent time in the USL as the head coach of Rio Grande Valley FC for the 2017 season, and as an assistant coach for Seattle Sounders FC S2 before that. He also served as head coach of the Seattle Sounders U-14 team, an assistant coach for the U.S. Boys' U-15 National Team, and as the head scout for the U.S. U-17 Men's National Team heading into the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
