
Women's Basketball Holds Off Second Half Surge, Defeats CSUB 68-65

Riverside, CA—Playing its first home game in nearly a month Wednesday morning, the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team (3-7) led the entire second half against CSU Bakersfield (3-5), earning its first home win of the season, 68-65.
KEY RUNS
The Roadrunners led 27-25 with 4:54 to go in the first half. UCR then went on a 10-0 run, taking a 35-27 lead that it would never relinquish.
The Highlanders' largest lead of the game was 44-33 with 7:41 remaining in the third. CSUBÂ would never go away though, cutting the deficit to as little as two, 60-58, with 3:28 left in the game.
With starting forward Skyler Lewis having fouled out just a minute earlier, sophomore Marina Ewodo stepped up to make a series of huge plays. Ewodo scored back-to-back baskets with under three minutes to go, putting UCR up 64-58, before taking a charge on the next possession.
GAME NOTES
Michelle Curry scored a team-high 19 points (8-15 FG) to go along with six assists, five rebounds and three steals. She has now scored 15 or more points in seven of her last eight games.
Curry is now just eight points away from becoming the 18th 1,000-point scorer in program history. She also moved into No. 9 all-time in career assists (263) in the win.
Marina Ewodo finished with career-highs of 11 points and 10 rebounds, recording her first career double-double. Eight of her 10 boards came on the offensive glass.
Lauren Holt (17 points) and Clémence Lefebvre (11 points) rounded out the Highlanders' double-digit scorers. UCR had four players score in double-figures, tying a season-high.
Lefebvre also set a new career-high with seven assists.
As a team, UC Riverside finished with 16 offensive rebounds, its second-highest total in a game this season. The Highlanders also had 14 steals, reaching double-digits for the first time this year.
UCR's next game will see the Highlanders head back on the road to face Iowa State on Dec. 17.
