Los Angeles, CA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team travels to UCLA Tuesday evening for a 6 pm PT first pitch against the Bruins, as right-hander Angel Landazuri gets his first start of 2017.

The Highlanders split the first two games of their season-opening twin bill against Nebraska (box score game 1/box score game 2/recap), but the final two games of the series were rained out.

Senior Mark Contreras and freshman Connor Cannon provided most of the offensive firepower for UC Riverside against the Cornhuskers. Contreras posted a slash line of .556/.556/.556, scoring three runs and driving in one over the two games. Cannon blasted his first home run as a collegian, drove in four runs and scored another to go along with a slash line of .429/.500/.857.

Alex Fagalde picked up the win in the season opener, tossing 4.2 innings of shutout relief, scattering two hits, and striking out six. It was the longest outing of his career.

UCLA won its first two games of 2017, picking up a 3-2 victory over San Jose State in the season opener on Saturday, and a 10-1 win over the Spartans on Sunday. The final game of their three-game series was set to begin on Monday, February 20 at 4 pm PT.

UCLA's pitching staff has a 1.00 ERA this season. Brian Gadsby was credited with the win in the season opener, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, while Jake Bird allowed just one hit and one earned run in 7.0 innings of work to pick up the win in game two of the series.

Four members of the Bruins are hitting .400 or better so far this year led by Daniel Armaral's .429. He is also the team's top slugger with an .857 slugging percentage.

The Highlanders are 11-15 all-time against UCLA, and the teams have split the last six meeting between the clubs.
