Northridge, CA–Simone DeCoud's 22 points led four players in double-figures, but UCR fell 79-70 to CSUN at the Matadome Saturday afternoon.
The loss locks the Highlanders into a seed no higher than fourth heading into the Big West Tournament, as they sit one and half games back of CSUN, who now owns the head-to-head the breaker. view Big West Standings
UC Riverside jumped out to an early 12-4 advantage in the first period, but would never lead again as the Matadors stormed back to take a 25-17 lead into the second.
The remaining three quarters were played at close range, with Highlanders winning only the second 14-11, and narrowly being outpointed in the third (22-19) and fourth (21-20).
CSUN connected on eight three pointers in the game compared UCR's four, but the blue and gold made seven more free-throws (18-11) in the game.
The game was won on the glass, as the Matadors out rebounded the Highlanders 39-26, and grabbed 11 offensive boards which led to 13 second chance points for CSUN–nine more than UC Riverside's four second chance points in the 79-70 defeat.
Mallow De Kergret had her best game in conference play with 15 points on 6-9 shooting. Skyler Lewis poured in 13 points, and collected a team-high eight caroms, while Michelle Curry added 12 points, and five dimes.
Shannon Fluker led CSUN with 22 points, and Serafina Maulupe chipped in 18.
UC Riverside concludes the regular season Thursday March 2, when Riverside native and lone senior Simone DeCoud will be recognized on "Senior Night".
