Weslie Totten Breaks School 5,000m Mark at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships

Seattle, WA—The UC Riverside Track & Field Teams first-ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championship is in the books, and Head Coach Nate Browne considered the meet a resounding success.

"Our very first MPSF meet was a great learning experience for the team and coaching staff," said Browne. "We all learned how deep this conference really is from top to bottom.

"Through the two days we were able to break five school records, which shows we had some athletes that were able to execute in a tough environment.

"Having Craig (Mauldin) and Michael (Harris) score high in the triple jump should give them confidence heading into the outdoor season.

"Overall we gained experience, had some strong performances and built momentum for the outdoor season.

"Lastly I want to thank our athletics director, Tamica Smith Jones, and our sport supervisor, Janet Lucas, for helping create this meet opportunity for our teams this year and in the future."

Justin Parker broke the program record in the Men's 400m with a time of 48.39—05 seconds faster than Peter Guenther and Michael Koger's previous top mark of 48.44.

Matthew Sam smashed his own school mark in the Heptathlon with 4,546 points.

Weslie (Totten) Pearce broke the school record in the Women's 5,000m by 15 seconds, finishing in 16:47.31.

George Goodwin cleared a program-best 4.57m (15' .00") in the Men's Pole Vault.

And the Men's Distance Medley Team of Carlos Lopez, Jarrrade Davis, Ethan Van Setten, Solomon Demeku-Ousman bested the school record with a time of 10:00.31.
