Riverside–The UC Riverside Woman's Tennis Team hosts Marquette on Tuesday, March 14th at the SRC Tennis Center at 1:30 pm. Friday they entertain Southern Utah in a match slated to begin at 1:30 pm.
The Highlanders are heading into the match with an impressive three-match winning-streak during their home stand that began March 8th. The Highlanders have dispatched of the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (Story), the Villanova Wildcats (Story), and the Valparaiso Crusaders (Story) all by the tally of 5-2.
The pregame mindset for the Highlanders may have been said best by junior Tamilla Vaksman, "Losing is a habit, but winning also is. Our goal is to keep the habit going."
Tracy Van has lead the Highlanders going a perfect 3-0 at line no. 3 during the current home stand. Turning in back-to-back straight set victories over South Dakota State and Villanova, before pulling out a three-setter over Valparaiso.
The quartet of Karla Dulay, Sara Khattab, Vaksman, and Lauren Wolfe have also been strong contributors for the Highlanders winning two out of three singles matches each over the home stand.
Lauren Wolfe, the Freshman from San Francisco, is also on a 5-match win streak when she has been inserted into the no. 4 singles spot for the Highlanders.
Marquette is entering the match coming off a 7-0 home victory against Drake to improve to 6-4 this season. Leading the way for the Golden Eagles has been Sophomore, Silvia Ambrosio, with her 5-2 record at the No. 1 spot.
Fleur Eggink, the freshman for Pieze, Netherlands, has also been a key member of the team with a 6-1 record playing primarily at the No. 4 spot.
The Golden Eagles will also play fellow Big West school CSUN during their two-match Spring Break trip.
Southern Utah is coming off a hard fought match, which they lost 3-4 on the road at Montana to fall to 1-11 on the year.
Leading the way for the Thunderbirds has been senior Evgenia Marushko and junior Mikala Lowrance. The duo has been holding down the top two spots in the singles lineup for the squad with records of 5-6 at no. 1 for Marushko, and 4-7 at no. 2 for Lowrance.
