Riverside, CA–Stephanie Tickemyer hit her first homer of the 2017 season in UCR's 5-2 loss to Dartmouth in the UC Riverside Classic Saturday.
The Big Green got on the board in the top of the third, thanks to lead-off triple by Alyssa Jorgensen, who came in on a groundout to score the game's first run.
Anessa Cepeda held Dartmouth to just a single run through three and two-thirds innings of work, and allowed six hits before giving way to Jacy Boles.
The Highlanders put the first two runners aboard to start the fourth. Jenna Curtan then hit a bloop single to left field scoring Jenae Lockwood with two out to tie the game at one apiece.
Tickemyer blasted a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left for her first homer of the year in the bottom of the fifth to give UCR a 2-1 lead.
In the sixth with a runner on second, Dartmouth got a single up the middle, but Curtan fired a strike from center field to get the runner at home, keeping it a one-run ballgame. The Big Green then pushed the tying run across on their third hit up the middle in the inning.
Coach Palmer inserted Rebecca Faulkner in the top of the seventh. She retired the lead-off hitter before allowing a pair of hits and eventually the go-ahead run.
Tayler Misfeldt was then tabbed to come in relief with one out and two on. She fanned the first hitter she faced, before giving up a double to right center that scored two more, making it 5-2 Dartmouth.
Big Green starter Breanna Ethridge went the distance to earn the team's first win of the 2017 season after Dartmouth started out 0-17-1. The loss snapped the Highlanders' seven-game winning streak.
