Le's Tournament-Low Two-Under 70 Paces Second Place Women's Golf On Day One Of Big West Championship

Riverside–Jakeishya Le fired a two-under par opening round 70 in the 2017 Big West Championship in leading the UC Riverside Women's Golf Team to its second place position through 18 holes at Oak Quarry Golf Club. (Day 1 leaderboard)
Le shook off a bogey at the third, before unleashing a seven-birdie barrage over an 11 hole stretch. Through 14 holes, the Santa Ana, CA native was six-under, five shots clear of her nearest competitor at -1.
With the wind kicking up, she had a series of miscues on holes 15-17 that took her back to where to -2 for the championship at the end of round one. Sunday's performance was Le's second straight 70 in the conference event going back to last year's final round.
Julia Sander posted a tidy one-over par 73 with a birdie against two bogeys. She now sits in a tie for 10th at +1 along with UC Irvine's Janet Yeo.
The Highlanders, who spent most of the day atop the leaderboard with Cal Poly, fell seven shots back behind the Mustangs when day one was complete were tallied.
UC Davis rounds out the top-3, which will also be paired together in tomorrow's second round at 9:00 am. (Day 2 Pairings)
Golfstat number 17 ranked player, Martina Edberg of Cal State Fullerton headlines a quartet of players tied for second at -1.
In last year's conference event UCR was second, three back of Cal Poly, after day one at Kapalua.
