Riverside—UC Riverside Head Men's Basketball Coach Dennis Cutts announced today the hiring of Murrieta, California native Brian Wethers as the team's director of basketball operations.
Wethers played at Murrieta Valley High School, and was a four-year letter winner at Cal from 1999-2003. He went on to play professionally overseas in Germany, France, Australia, Ukraine, New Zealand and Lebanon. He also spent time in the NBDL with the Bakersfield Jam. While playing in Australia, Wethers led the league in scoring, and was named league MVP.
"Brian is a great addition to our program," said Cutts. "His experience as a player both collegiately and professionally will be a tremendous resource for our student-athletes."
"I am very excited to join the UC Riverside basketball family," added Wethers. "I feel very confident with our coaching staff and high-character student athletes, and am looking forward to being a positive impact on a fast-growing program. Go Highlanders!"
While at Cal, Wethers earned All-Pac 10 Honorable Mention honors as a senior, finishing his career as the program's 15th all-time leading scorer.
He would later start his own company, Wethers' Elite Training, which provided private training, camps, clinics and team travel opportunities for boys and girls.
