Seattle, WA – Four distance runners represented the UC Riverside Track and Field team at the Washington Invitational this weekend.
On Friday, sophomore Arman Irani competed in the Men's 5000m, earning an indoor lifetime best time of 15:02.00. That mark was good for the 10th-best in UCR program history.
Saturday would see the Highlander women take the track, as seniors Faith Makau and Weslie Pearce made their season debuts in their respective events.
Makau ran her first ever Women's 1-mile race at the collegiate level, finishing 4th in her heat and 13th overall after crossing the finish line with a time of 4:49.11. That mark puts her in 2nd all-time at UCR, behind only UCR alum and Rio 2016 Olympian Brenda Martinez (4:39).
In the 3000m, Pearce took a 10th-place finish in the 3rd heat with a time of 9:51.80, good for 26th overall. It was her second best career time at this distance.
Rounding out the Highlander lineup was junior Emily Sanchez, who finished 7th in the 2nd section of the Women's 3000m, clocking a time of 9:58.96. That time was also good for the 10th-best in UCR history.
